Expert commission
Find out more about the dedicated people who are part of our independent commission. These volunteer experts from the fields of economics, forestry and environmental protection decide which projects are supported and in what order. Our WeReforest expert commission is made up of renowned members from the private forestry sector, the corporate forestry sector and the scientific community. We specifically promote measures that promise ecological, qualitative or temporal advantages compared to gradual reforestation or natural forest development.

"I think it's good that [...] the association WeReforest e.V. is committed to the national task of reforesting the countless calamity areas. This commitment makes it possible to support many committed forest owners in reforesting with tree species that are as climate-stable as possible in an unbureaucratic way. I was happy to take on the task of advising the expert committee on the selection of the many applications."
Dr. Eberhard Piest, Position: Head of Count von Spee'sche Forstbetriebe
"I am very happy to support the association WeReforest e.V. because reforestation deserves broad social support beyond the official processes. The reforestation of the calamity areas aims to preserve the forests and thus a variety of functions. The future use of wood is one of them. Reforestation must be measured against the local conditions as well as the risks of galloping climatic change. This requires creativity and craftsmanship. That's why I want to contribute my 26 years of professional experience from my district!"
Martin Janner, district manager in the communal forest, Forester of the Year 2023, author of the book "The Forest of the Future"
"We are currently experiencing how climate change is hitting our forest ecosystems with breathtaking force. In this situation, we need every good idea we can get. And forest owners need all the help they can get. I hope that WeReforest can provide this combination in selected projects."
Dr. Chris Freise, Head of Forestry Office, Thuringian Forestry Office Erfurt-Willrode
"In recent years, climate change has led to large areas of calamity and, as a result, to a rethink in the management of forests and the choice of tree species. In the private forest sector in particular, this has presented many forest owners with planning and financial problems that are almost impossible to solve and which now need to be addressed. WeReforest e.V. makes it easy to obtain funding for reforestation and forest conversion projects, which are urgently needed for the future."
Marco Braun, regional forestry and sales field service manager at FriedWald GmbH
"Not only in North Rhine-Westphalia, but now nationwide, many forest owners have to make enormous efforts to reforest their calamitous areas in the coming years and decades. The uncomplicated support provided to forest owners by the WeReforest association in establishing site-appropriate, climate-adapted mixed forests is a great help for the future of our forests. I am very happy to support this project."
Heidrun Buß-Schöne, Managing Director of Waldbauernverband Nordrhein-Westfalen e.V.
